Raised in Bogota, Colombia, Sofia  has a B.A. in Communication and Journalism at Universidad Tadeo Lozano (Bogota, Colombia). She has worked in national and international productions of movies, documentaries, press and television; with experience on research and media production.

Sofia has worked in Africa, Latin America, United States and Europe. Her main interest is in stories with a social, political, historic and human focus. She has worked for Vice, Univision, Discovery Channel, History Channel, Travel Channel, Netflix and Arte and The New York Times amongst others.

  • Winner of the India Catalina award 2013 for best news and opinion program, "La Rebelión de las Ruanas", coverage of one of the largest farmer strikes in Colombia’s history.

  •  In 2016, she was selected as one of the 15 woman journalists from around the world for  "Historias del Agua" , organized by FNPI and "Chicas Poderosas", with the support of CAF-Development Bank for Latin America and OXFAM.

  • In 2016 she was chosen as one of the 25 judges for the Gabriel Garcia Marquez journalism award in the coverage section.  

  • *The photograph (reconciliation camp in Kigali, Rwanda) was selected as part of the 2017 calendar for the United Nations, UNFCU.
