Raised in Bogotá, Colombia, Sofia holds a B.A. in Communication and Journalism from Universidad Tadeo Lozano. She has contributed to national and international productions across film, documentaries, press, and television, gaining extensive experience in research and media production.

Sofia has worked in Africa, Latin America, the United States, and Europe. She has a strong interest in stories with social, political, historical, and human dimensions. Her work includes collaborations with Vice, Univision, Discovery Channel, History Channel, Travel Channel, Netflix, Arte, Apple TV, Vox, Der Spiegel, The New York Times, and others.

  • Winner of the India Catalina award 2013 for best news and opinion program, "La Rebelión de las Ruanas", coverage of one of the largest farmer strikes in Colombia’s history.

  •  In 2016, she was selected as one of the 15 woman journalists from around the world for  "Historias del Agua" , organized by FNPI and "Chicas Poderosas", with the support of CAF-Development Bank for Latin America and OXFAM.

  • In 2016 she was chosen as one of the 25 judges for the Gabriel Garcia Marquez journalism award in the coverage section.
